Six former law enforcement officers in Mississippi have pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges in connection with a violent assault on two Black men. The officers, who called themselves the “Goon Squad”, entered the men’s home without a warrant and used a stun gun, handcuffed them, and assaulted them with a sex object before one of the officers fired a gun in one of the men’s mouths, causing serious injuries. The Associated Press conducted an investigation which revealed that the officers had discussed a false cover story and had planted and tampered with evidence. The six officers have pleaded guilty, but the victims have yet to receive justice.
