A new study has revealed that high school textbooks used in the United States largely ignore Latino history, with only 28 of the 222 important topics related to Latino history being covered well. This lack of coverage comes at a time when the U.S. Hispanic population is growing rapidly, and UnidosUS President and CEO Janet MurguĂa is calling for a comprehensive review of textbooks to ensure that Latino history is properly represented. The study's authors are also recommending that states and school districts develop and implement standards for teaching Latino history.
