Firefighter Mark Batista from Teaneck, NJ tragically drowned on Friday while trying to save his teenage daughter from a rip current at the Jersey Shore. Multiple units responded to the scene, and the teen girl was rescued by rescue swimmers and taken to a hospital. Batista was found submerged in water and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The FDNY expressed their condolences to the Batista family, saying he died in the line of duty while off-duty.
