A 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man have been charged with murder after the juvenile fatally shot an employee at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant in Texas, police said.
The shooting occurred Saturday night in north central Texas after Matthew Davis, a 32-year-old employee at a Sonic drive-in, confronted 20-year-old Angel Gomez of Fort Worth for allegedly urinating in the back parking lot, according to KDFW.
The 12-year-old boy, who police did not name because he is a minor, shot Davis six times with an AR-15 rifle, police said.
Keene Police Chief James Kidd said Davis confronted Gomez for urinating in the parking lot, and the argument soon became physical. During the altercation, the juvenile retrieved a firearm and fired multiple shots, striking the victim.
The Keene Police Department said it is working with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if the juvenile will be charged as an adult. The 20-year-old suspect, Angel Gomez, is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The incident has shocked the small town of Keene, with many residents expressing their condolences to the victim’s family. The Sonic Drive-In restaurant has since reopened, but the community is still reeling from the tragedy.
