Three-time Olympic medalist Tori Bowie, a Mississippi native, has passed away, officials said Wednesday. Bowie was best known for anchoring America’s 4×100-meter relay to gold in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
Icon Management Inc., the agency that represented Bowie, initially announced the news in a tweet. Her management company and USA Track & Field also announced her death.
“We’re devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away,” the agency said. “We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright!”
Sports officials have since acknowledged Bowie’s death as well. The Olympics, Team USA, and Icon Management Inc. all released individual statements grieving the loss on Wednesday.
No cause of death was given. However, the agency, Team USA, and the Olympics all expressed their condolences to Bowie’s family, friends, and everyone that loved her.
