Former Louisville Metro Police Officer Myles Cosgrove, who was fired in 2021 following the death of Breonna Taylor in 2020, has been hired by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
Taylor, a Black woman, was killed on March 13, 2020 by police executing a narcotics search warrant. Cosgrove was fired for violating use-of-force procedures and failing to use a body camera during the raid on Taylor’s apartment.
Chief Deputy Rob Miller of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office told local outlet WLKY that “there will be opinions on both sides of the equation” in regards to the hiring. Miller added that “We’re going to give him a chance.”
Cosgrove was never convicted despite damning video footage and witness accounts. None of the three White officers who fired into Taylor’s home were charged by a grand jury in her death.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office believes that Cosgrove will help reduce the flow of drugs in the area and reduce property crime. His new job at the sheriff’s department began on Thursday.
