Robert Louis Singletary is wanted on four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He is considered armed and dangerous.
The shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. Tuesday in Gastonia, just west of Charlotte. The girl had a bullet fragment in her cheek and was released from the hospital, her mother, Ashley Hilderbrand, told NBC affiliate WCNC of Charlotte.
Neighbors told the news station that children were playing outside when a basketball rolled into Singletary’s yard. Hilderbrand was grazed by a bullet while her husband remains hospitalized.
Gaston County Communications Director Adam Gaub said at a press conference with police Wednesday that Singletary has a violent past.
Police are asking anyone with information about Singletary’s whereabouts to contact them. They are warning the public not to approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
