Former First Lady Michelle Obama made an appearance on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show” and took the opportunity to throw some shade at President Donald Trump. Obama was discussing the tradition of inviting immediate predecessors back to the White House to unveil their official portraits when she revealed that she and her husband, former President Barack Obama, had not been invited.

When host Jimmy Fallon noted that the Obamas had only recently returned to the White House for the first time since they left office in January 2017, Obama deadpanned, “No. Wasn’t invited.”

The Obamas made their first joint return in September for the unveiling of their official portraits, an experience Michelle Obama called “beautiful.”

The former first lady also discussed her marriage struggles, saying last year she “couldn’t stand” her husband for about a decade when their two children were little. She said that at a time when marriage is glamorized and “more about the dress,” it is incumbent upon people who have had successful marriages to be honest about the fact that making a commitment to be with someone means compromise.

“And a lot of young people quit on marriage over things that are just a part of the commitment,” she said. “You do your official portraits, the next day you’re still married.”
