Louisville to Host Vigil to Honor Victims of Bank Shooting Tragedy

The city of Louisville, Kentucky is preparing to host a vigil to grieve the five people killed in a downtown bank shooting on Monday. The 25-year-old gunman, Connor Sturgeon, had been struggling with depression, according to a statement released by his family.

The Louisville Metro Police Department released body-camera footage on Tuesday showing the events of the shooting. The footage shows that a rookie cop, on just his fourth shift, was one of the first two officers to arrive at the scene. Moments later, the rookie cop was hit in a barrage of bullets and is now in critical condition.

The shooting began when an employee opened fire at the bank. The gunman was declared “down” just seven minutes after the initial dispatch call.

Sturgeon’s family released a statement expressing their sorrow and anguish at the “unthinkable harm” their son inflicted on innocent people. They said that while Connor had mental health challenges, there were no warning signs or indications that he was capable of such a shocking act.
