Four University of Idaho students were tragically killed in a stabbing incident in November 2022. On Thursday, a probable cause affidavit was released in the case against suspect Bryan Kohberger, 28.

According to the affidavit, one of the two roommates who survived the attack told investigators she saw a masked man dressed in black in the house the morning of the attack. The roommate, identified as D.M., described the figure as 5’ 10” or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows. D.M. said she then saw a “figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person’s mouth and nose walking towards her.”

On Jan. 5, Kohberger made his first appearance in Latah County District Court, where he was wearing an orange jumpsuit and his face was vacant. Under a dark Idaho sky, investigators flew Kohberger to the college town of Moscow, where the women shared a home.

Kohberger has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bond. The maximum penalty for this offense, if he pleads guilty or is found guilty, is death or life in prison without parole.

The University of Idaho community is still reeling from the tragedy. The school has set up a memorial fund to honor the victims and provide support to their families. The university is also offering counseling services to students, faculty, and staff.
