BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The trial of Lori Vallow, who is accused of murdering her two children and a romantic rival, began in Boise, Idaho on Monday. Prosecutors suggested motives, showed graphic photos and described a complicated plot involving efforts to cast out evil spirits.

Vallow is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and grand theft in connection with the deaths of two of her children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, along with Tammy Daybell. Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake told jurors Monday during the first day of arguments that Vallow “used money, power and sex to get what she wanted.”

Blake revealed the results of the autopsy in opening arguments of the trial Monday morning, according to NBC affiliate KSL of Salt Lake City. Tammy Daybell, Chad Daybell’s ex-wife, was found dead in October 2019 of what were believed to be natural causes at the time.

The trial is expected to last several weeks and will include testimony from more than 100 witnesses. Vallow has pleaded not guilty. Madison County prosecutor Rob Wood and defense attorney Jim Archibald were present during opening statements.
