A Norfolk County grand jury has indicted Brian Walshe, 47, on charges of murder, misleading a police investigation/obstruction of justice and improper conveyance of a human body in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Ana Walshe.

The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office made the announcement in a news release on Thursday. Walshe had already pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in January, but the indictment moves the case to the Norfolk Superior Court, where it will be arraigned anew in the coming weeks.

Ana Walshe was last seen on New Year’s Day. Michael W. Morrissey, the Norfolk County District Attorney, told WFXT-TV in Boston that the indictment of Brian Walshe is only a step in a long process. He added that Walshe enjoys the Constitutional presumption of innocence and all of the protections afforded him under the Constitution.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Walshe faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. The investigation into Ana Walshe’s disappearance is ongoing.
