The Senate Ethics Committee has admonished Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) for violating Senate rules during a Fox News appearance last November. The committee found that Graham had “directly solicited” campaign contributions for Herschel Walker, who lost his bid for one of Georgia’s Senate seats last year.

In a letter released by the panel, Democratic Chair Chris Coons of Delaware and GOP Vice Chair James Lankford of Oklahoma said Graham violated Senate rules during the Nov. 30 interview when he solicited funds in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office building.

The committee said that during the roughly nine-minute interview, more than four minutes were devoted to a discussion of the 2022 run-off in Georgia between Walker and Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, with Graham soliciting donations for Walker’s campaign.

“The committee is charged with upholding the ethical standards of the U.S. Senate, a responsibility both broader than and distinct from criminal law,” the pair wrote in the letter. “The committee takes seriously its obligation to ensure that all senators adhere to the highest ethical standards and that the Senate’s reputation for integrity is maintained.”

The committee has asked Graham to respond to the letter within 30 days. It is unclear what action, if any, the committee will take against Graham if he does not comply.
