On Thursday, a hostage rescue in Houston resulted in one fatality. The incident began days earlier when three migrants were kidnapped from a vehicle in Waller County, Texas.
According to Sean Whittmore, a prosecutor with the Waller County District Attorney’s Office, the three migrants were traveling in a vehicle on Interstate 10 when they were stopped by an unknown number of individuals and forced into another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle with the migrants called 911 and informed the Waller County Sheriff’s Office about the kidnapping.
The FBI was assisting the Waller County Sheriff’s Office in the rescue operation, but declined to provide more information on the number of hostages or what led to the shooting. The FBI’s Houston office released a statement saying that all the hostages had been safely rescued and that one individual was deceased.
Whittmore declined to comment on the migrants’ immigration status, nationalities or whether they were being illegally transported at the time of the kidnapping. The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
