A federal judge in New York has ordered special security measures to protect the jurors in the civil lawsuit of E. Jean Carroll against former President Donald Trump. Judge Lewis Kaplan noted Trump’s recent comments surrounding the Manhattan District Attorney’s investigation into alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels as a reason to protect jurors as much as possible.

Kaplan said he will refuse to allow jurors’ names in the case to become public, adding, “If jurors’ identities were disclosed, there would be a strong likelihood of unwanted media attention to the jurors, influence attempts, and/or of harassment or worse of jurors by supporters of Mr. Trump.”

The judge also noted Trump’s history of attacking the legal system, saying, “It bears mention that Mr. Trump repeatedly has attacked courts, judges, various law enforcement officials and other public officials, and even individual jurors in other matters.”

Kaplan said the court will take additional security measures to protect the jurors, such as providing a secure entrance and exit to the courthouse, and ensuring that jurors’ personal information is kept confidential.

The civil lawsuit of E. Jean Carroll against Donald Trump is scheduled to go to trial in October 2021. The case centers around Carroll’s allegation that Trump raped her in a New York department store in the 1990s. Trump has denied the allegation.
