The U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) has launched an investigation into the conduct of men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter. The investigation includes potential inappropriate behavior towards multiple members of staff by individuals outside of the organization.
Berhalter released a statement on Tuesday addressing a domestic violence incident between himself and his now-wife that took place in 1991. He admitted to kicking his wife Rosalind during an argument, and said there were “zero excuses” for his actions. Berhalter also said it was a “shameful moment” that he “regrets to this day”, and that Rosalind eventually forgave him.
The USSF said it will announce in the coming days who will coach the team for upcoming exhibitions, as the investigation is ongoing. The organization also said it is committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for all of its staff and athletes.
Berhalter has been the head coach of the US men’s national team since December 2018. He has led the team to a record of 11 wins, four losses, and four draws.
The USSF has not commented further on the investigation, and it is unclear what the outcome may be. However, the organization has stated that it takes all allegations of inappropriate behavior seriously and is committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for all of its staff and athletes.
