U.S. authorities have confirmed that two sisters from Peñitas, Texas and their friend have gone missing in Mexico after they crossed the border last month to sell clothes at a flea market. The FBI said Friday it is aware of the situation and is “unable to provide comment on this ongoing investigation” but is “relentlessly pursuing all options when it comes to protecting the American people, and this doesn’t change when they are endangered across the border.”

Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47; Marina Perez Rios, 48; and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53, were traveling in a green mid-1990s Chevy Silverado to a flea market in the city of Montemorelos, in Nuevo Leon state. It’s about a three-hour drive from where the sisters are from in Peñitas, a small border city in Texas near McAllen.

Peñitas Police Chief Roel Bermea said their families have been in touch with Mexican authorities, who are investigating their disappearance. Beyond that, officials in the U.S. and Mexico haven’t said much about their pursuit of Maritza, Marina, and Dora.

The FBI has asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three women to contact the FBI’s San Antonio Field Office at 210-225-6741 or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.

The disappearance of the three women has sparked concern among family and friends, and the FBI is continuing to investigate the case. The agency is urging anyone with information to come forward and help locate the missing women.
