U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger Criticizes Fox News Host Tucker Carlson’s Portrayal of January 6th Attack

The U.S. Capitol Police Chief, J. Thomas Manger, has spoken out against Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s portrayal of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. In a department-wide bulletin on Tuesday, Manger said that the opinion program aired commentary that was “filled with offensive and misleading conclusions” about the attack.

Manger also accused Carlson of selectively airing footage that failed to provide context about the attack. This comes after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) granted Carlson hours of security camera footage from the riot.

Carlson had claimed that snippets of calm scenes better represent the day’s events than footage of rioters fighting against the police. However, Manger said that the opinion program never reached out to the department to provide accurate context.

The Capitol Police Chief’s comments come as the Republican party has been attempting to rewrite the history of the January 6th attack. Manger’s criticism of Carlson’s portrayal of the attack is a major escalation of the Republican party’s efforts.
