Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was resuscitated twice at the hospital after his heart stopped on the field during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to his uncle, Dorrian Glenn.

Glenn told CNN that Hamlin’s heart stopped twice, once on the field and again at the hospital, and that he had to be hit with a defibrillator. He also said that Hamlin has lung damage and is currently receiving 50% oxygen from a ventilator.

Despite the serious nature of the situation, Glenn said that Hamlin is improving and thanked the public for their support and prayers.

“People who don’t even know us are showing love and support and we’re so thankful for that,” Glenn said. “I know those prayers are helping because he’s definitely recovering … he’s improving from where he was yesterday.”

The Buffalo Bills organization released a statement Tuesday saying that they are “encouraged by the progress Damar has made since the incident and will continue to monitor his condition closely.” The team also asked for privacy for the Hamlin family during this difficult time.
