Indiana State Police have released body-camera footage showing that the suspect in the slayings of four University of Idaho students was pulled over twice on his way back to Pennsylvania from Washington state on Dec. 15.
According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Bryan Kohlberger, 28, was driving a Hyundai Elantra with a passenger when he was stopped at 10:40 a.m. for “following too closely” on Interstate 70. The passenger was not publicly identified, but the state police have identified them as Kohlberger’s father.
Though most of the conversation is indiscernible due to background noise, the officer can be heard giving the driver and passenger a warning for following another car too closely. The sheriff’s office said that at the time of the traffic stop, there was no information available on a suspect for the crimes in Idaho, to include identifying information or vehicle description.
Kohlberger was arrested on Dec. 16 in Pennsylvania and charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the Nov. 13 killings of the four University of Idaho students. He is currently being held in the Northampton County Prison in Easton, Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition to Idaho.
The Indiana State Police have not released any further information about the traffic stops. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said it is continuing to investigate the incident.
