Alex Murdaugh Found Guilty of Fatal Shooting of His Wife and Son, Sentenced to Life in Prison Without Parole

A South Carolina attorney, Alex Murdaugh, was found guilty on Thursday of fatally shooting his wife and son and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Murdaughs were found dead at a dog kennel on the family property in Colleton County, South Carolina on June 7, 2021. Alex Murdaugh denied he was anywhere near the crime scene for a year and a half, but in July 2022, he was indicted on two counts of murder for the deaths of his wife and son.

Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Florida’s Palm Beach County, said it was ironic that it was the victim, Paul Murdaugh, who solved his own murder. The key proof came from a video which showed Alex Murdaugh entering the dog kennel on the night of the murders. This evidence exposed his web of lies and ultimately led to his conviction in the double homicide.

After just under three hours of deliberation, the jury found Alex Murdaugh guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
