Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has been hospitalized in San Francisco with shingles after missing Senate votes this week. In a statement, Feinstein, 89, said she got the shingles diagnosis while the Senate was in recess late last month.
“I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery,” Feinstein said.
Feinstein is the oldest sitting senator and announced last month that she will retire from Congress at the end of 2024 after having served three decades in the Senate and over 50 years in public office.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who also had a health scare earlier this year, released a statement on Monday saying he was “doing well” and was working with doctors and “remains on the path to recovery.” Fetterman had suffered a stroke just ahead of the May primary election and spent the subsequent months off the campaign trail to recover before ultimately beating his GOP opponent, Mehmet Oz, in the general election.
Feinstein’s office said Wednesday that she was “dealing with a health matter” and hoped to “return to Washington soon.” With her recovery underway, Feinstein’s constituents and colleagues are wishing her a speedy recovery.
