Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Declares: “Russia Must Lose in Ukraine” and Calls for Meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to Discuss 12-Point Peace Plan

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that “Russia must lose in Ukraine” and argued that its forces can be defeated this year. This statement came after China put forward a 12-point peace plan to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been ongoing for one year.

The Chinese peace plan calls for both sides to agree to a gradual de-escalation, keep nuclear facilities safe, establish humanitarian corridors and prevent attacks on civilian populations. Zelenskyy said he wanted to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the proposals and believed it would “benefit our countries and security in the world.”

Fighting is still ongoing in Ukraine, with Ukrainian authorities reporting dozens of new Russian strikes and attacks on cities in the east and south. Zelenskyy said that China historically respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and should therefore do everything for Russia to leave the territory of Ukraine.
