At around 5:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, police responded to reports of a shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas. One person was killed and three others were injured in the incident.
El Paso Police Sgt. Robert Gomez said that one suspect has been arrested and a possible second suspect is being sought. The scene is no longer active. The mall is located adjacent to a Walmart where a shooting in 2019 killed 23 people and injured nearly two dozen more.
Gomez said the investigation indicated the shooting occurred “in the approximate area of the food court, but that was not confirmed.” Police did not comment on a possible motive and did not provide details on the conditions of the three victims who were hospitalized.
The mall was searched extensively and Gomez said that people in the area were scared. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 70 mass shootings across the United States this year.
Gomez said that one suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released at this time.
