Freshman Congressman George Santos of New York has been caught in another lie, this time involving a United States Senator. In an interview with Newsmax on Thursday, Santos claimed that after his tense exchange with Republican Senator Mitt Romney ahead of Tuesday’s State of the Union address, Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona had consoled him with the words “hang in there, buddy.”

However, Sinema’s office has denied that the senator ever spoke to Santos. In the same interview, Santos also made disparaging remarks about Romney, saying “she’s a good person, unlike Mr. Romney” and that “his whole mighty white horse trying to talk to us down on morality.”

Santos, a Republican, has been embroiled in controversy since it was revealed that he had lied extensively about major parts of his life story. He was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2020.

Senator Sinema is an independent who was elected to the Senate in 2018. She is the first openly bisexual person to be elected to the Senate, and the first woman to represent Arizona in the Senate.

This is not the first time that Congressman Santos has been caught in a lie. It remains to be seen if the congressman will face any consequences for his false claims.
