Fight Breaks Out at Boys Basketball Game, Resulting in Death of 60-Year-Old Man

A tragic incident occurred at the Alburgh Community Education Center in Alburgh, Vermont on Tuesday evening. At approximately 7pm, a fight broke out among spectators at a seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball game between Alburgh and St. Albans. The Vermont State Police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, many of the participants had already left.

Unfortunately, the altercation resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man who had been involved in the fight. The cause of death is currently unknown, and the Vermont State Police are actively investigating the incident.

In response to the tragedy, Jay Nichols, the executive director of The Vermont Principals’ Association, released a statement expressing his condolences and emphasizing the importance of safety at school sporting events. He said, “The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and spectators is of utmost importance. We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.”

The Alburgh School District released a statement as well, saying, “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our students and staff and will continue to work with the Vermont State Police to investigate this incident.”
