At least three people were killed in a shooting in Yakima, Washington early Tuesday morning, according to the Yakima Police Department. The suspect, who remains at large, is considered to be a danger to the community.
Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray spoke to CNN Tuesday and said the suspect pulled into an ARCO/ampm gas station and “tried to get into the lobby,” but found the doors were locked. Murray said officers initially responded to a call that reported a man “shooting parties” at a Circle K convenience store.
Murray said the suspect then walked across the street to the Circle K, where he pulled out his gun and shot two people who were getting food. The suspect may have also shot a fourth person whose injuries are unknown before stealing that person’s car and fleeing the scene.
The Yakima Police Department is currently working on “strong leads” to identify the suspect. Murray urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.
The Yakima Valley is known mainly for agriculture, and the shooting has left the community in shock. The Yakima Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact them.
