President Joe Biden to Visit California to Assess Need for Additional Federal Support for Storm Recovery Efforts

President Joe Biden is set to visit California on Thursday to view the damage caused by severe storms and assess the need for additional federal support for recovery efforts. Accompanied by FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state and local officials, the president will tour the storm-damaged Capitola Pier in Santa Cruz County, where he will meet with business owners and affected residents.

At Seacliff State Park, Biden will meet with first responders and deliver remarks on supporting the state’s recovery. According to the White House, over 500 FEMA and other federal personnel have already been deployed to California to support response and recovery operations.

The president will survey areas of Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties along the state’s central coast, where recent storms caused floods and landslides. At least 20 people have been killed and 41 of the state’s 58 counties have been affected by the storms.

The White House has not yet released details of the president’s visit, but it is expected to focus on the need for additional federal support for recovery efforts. Biden has previously expressed his support for the people of California and his commitment to helping the state recover from the storms.
