Prince Harry has been awarded a “modest” sum of 140,600 pounds ($180,000) by the High Court in London after a judge ruled that he was the victim of “extensive” phone hacking by the Mirror Group.

Justice Timothy Fancourt, the presiding judge in the case, said that the Mirror Group “only played a small part in everything that the Duke suffered” and “was not responsible for all the unlawful activity that was directed at the Duke, and that a good deal of the oppressive behaviour of the Press towards the Duke over the years was not unlawful at all.”

The court ruled that Prince Harry’s personal cellphone was likely hacked “to a modest extent,” and that 15 out of the 33 news articles submitted as part of the trial were the product of accessing his mobile voicemail.

The case was brought jointly by four British celebrities who each claim they were the victim of phone hacking. Prince Harry’s partial victory in the case follows his acrimonious move to California with his wife, Meghan, and his departure from the working royal family.

The ruling is a reminder of the power of the press and the need to protect the privacy of individuals. It is also a reminder of the importance of holding the press accountable for their actions and ensuring that they are not allowed to abuse their power.
