Julia Misley, 65, has filed a lawsuit against Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler alleging sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. According to the lawsuit, Tyler used his status and power as a well-known musician to groom and exploit Misley over a period of three years. Misley said she wanted to take legal action against those who abused her in her youth.
The lawsuit states that Tyler included Misley’s name in the acknowledgements of his autobiography, leaving readers and the public without doubt of her identity. It also alleges that Tyler engaged in various acts of criminal sexual conduct with Misley, leading to her becoming pregnant in 1975. Tyler is accused of coercing Misley into having an abortion. He also wrote that he almost “took a teen bride” and got her parents to sign over custody so he wouldn’t get arrested when she went on tour with him out of state. After the book’s publication, Misley was confronted with a picture of her own face on a tabloid cover at a grocery store.
The lawsuit was filed under a 2019 California law that gave adult victims of childhood sexual assault a three-year window to file lawsuits for decades-old instances of assault.
