White House Warns Congress: Without New Funding, US Will Run Out of Resources to Provide Aid to Ukraine

The White House on Monday warned Congress that the United States is running out of resources to provide aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia. In a letter to congressional leaders, Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young said that without new funding, aid to Ukraine will be depleted by the end of the year.

“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks,” Young wrote.

Young also noted that there is “no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment.” She urged Congress to act quickly to provide additional funding for the aid package.

The United States has provided Ukraine with military aid since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea. The aid package includes weapons, equipment, and training for the Ukrainian military.

The White House’s warning comes as tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been escalating in recent weeks.
