Hunter Biden Seeks to Subpoena Former President Trump and Former Justice Department Officials in Federal Court Motion

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has filed a motion in federal court to subpoena former President Donald Trump, former Attorney General William Barr and other former Justice Department officials for documents and materials related to his ongoing criminal prosecution.

In court papers filed Wednesday in a Delaware federal court, Hunter Biden’s legal team requested any and all records or documents related to his investigation on gun and tax charges dating back to January of 2017. The team argues that communications between Trump and former Justice Department officials during his presidency reveal “more than a mere appearance that President Trump improperly and unrelentingly pressured DOJ to pursue an investigation and prosecution of Mr. Biden to advance President Trump’s partisan ambitions.”

The motion is part of Hunter Biden’s defense in a federal trial to which he pleaded not guilty to three counts of tax fraud and one count of lying to federal authorities. Biden’s legal team is seeking to prove that the criminal prosecution is purely vindictive and politically motivated.

The motion is the latest development in the ongoing legal battle between Hunter Biden and the Justice Department. The Justice Department has yet to respond to the motion. It is unclear when the court will rule on the motion or if the requested documents and materials will be made available to Biden’s legal team.
