Pink Partners with PEN America and Books & Books to Combat Book Bans in Florida

Pop star Pink has announced a partnership with PEN America and Florida bookstore Books & Books to combat book bans in the state. The musician will be distributing 2,000 copies of four books at her Tuesday and Wednesday shows in Miami and Sunrise.

The books include “The Family Book” by Todd Parr, “The Hill We Climb” by Amanda Gorman, “Beloved” by Toni Morrison and a book from the “Girls Who Code” series. According to PEN America, Florida overtook Texas during the last school year with more books banned in public school classrooms and libraries than any other state in the union.

Book bans documented by the organization show that books about race, racism and LGBTQ identities are disproportionately affected, as are books by Black and LGBTQ+ authors. Pink hopes that by giving away these books, she can help combat book-banning in the state, which has been prevalent under Governor Ron DeSantis.

“Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that’s why I am so passionate about making sure that everyone has access to them,” Pink said in a statement. “I’m proud to partner with PEN America and Books & Books to help ensure that everyone in Florida has access to the books they need and deserve.”
