Survey Reveals Biden’s Support Has Dropped Significantly Among Muslim and Arab Democrats in Michigan

A new survey conducted by one of Joe Biden’s former pollsters has revealed that the president’s support has dropped significantly among Muslim and Arab Democrats in Michigan, a key demographic group that overwhelmingly backed Biden in the swing state in 2020. The survey, shared first with NBC News, was conducted by Lake Research Partners, a respected Democratic pollster that did extensive work on Biden’s 2020 campaign and those of many other major Democratic candidates.

The poll lends further credence to the warnings Arab and Muslim community leaders in Michigan and beyond have been issuing for weeks: that Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza could cost him a state that he won by just 150,000 votes in 2020 and is home to an estimated 240,000 Muslims.

The survey comes after Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) criticized Biden in a video where she accused him of supporting “the genocide of the Palestinian people” in a call for a Israeli cease-fire in Gaza. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki weighed in on the video, telling reporters that “we have to do everything we can” to reelect Biden before declaring that it’s important to recognize that we live in a “very divided” country. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who has also called for a cease-fire, declined to use the word “genocide” but noted that Tlaib isn’t the first person to use the term.

The survey results suggest that Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza could have a major impact on the outcome of the 2022 midterms in Michigan and beyond. It remains to be seen how Biden will address the concerns of Muslim and Arab Democrats in the state, but it is clear that the president will need to take decisive action if he hopes to maintain their support.
