Palestinian Doctor Hassan Zain al-Din Continues to Provide Medical Care in the Face of Conflict in Gaza Strip

Amid the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, Palestinian doctor Hassan Zain al-Din has been providing medical treatment and medication to displaced patients in the Gaza Strip. Al-Din travels from one makeshift shelter to another on his bicycle, riding past the rubble and fuel shortages in Deir al-Balah.

The conflict has also had an impact on social media, with many journalists, digital creators and people active on social media based in the region seeing a significant uptick in followers. For example, journalist Plestia Alaqad, whose work has been featured by NBC News, has gained more than 2.1 million followers, according to the social media analytics company Social Blade.

Al-Din uses his bicycle to travel more than 9 miles back and forth between the Chronic Disease Center and to see his patients at United Nations schools and makeshift shelters. Despite the difficult conditions, al-Din has been determined to continue his mission of tending to those who have been injured by the war.

Motaz Azaiza’s Instagram account has also seen a surge in followers since the conflict began. Before early October, Azaiza’s account had about 25,000 followers, but since then, more than 12.5 million people have begun following his feed, which has become a daily chronicle of Israeli strikes.
