Mark Meadows, former Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump, has been granted immunity to testify under oath in the Department of Justice case against Trump and his allies regarding their efforts to overturn the 2020 election. According to ABC News, Meadows has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith’s team at least three times this year, including before a federal grand jury.

Meadows reportedly told prosecutors that he repeatedly warned Trump in the weeks after the 2020 election that allegations of voter fraud in the presidential race were unsubstantiated. He also said that Trump was being “dishonest” when he first claimed to have won the election, hours after voting ended on Nov. 3.

Meadows also told prosecutors that he had informed Trump several times in the weeks after the election that the voting fraud allegations they were receiving were unfounded. He agreed to testify before a federal grand jury in exchange for immunity.

The question of Meadows’ cooperation has lingered for months over the Department of Justice investigation into Trump and his allies. The grand jury appearance was one out of at least three meetings which Meadows reportedly had with Smith’s team in 2023. It is unclear what other information Meadows may have provided to prosecutors.
