After nearly two decades of mystery, Joran van der Sloot has finally confessed to the murder of Natalee Holloway. The 36-year-old Dutchman made the admission as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors over his 2010 attempt to extort a quarter-million dollars from Holloway’s mother.

Van der Sloot pleaded guilty to extortion and wire fraud in an agreement that compelled him to reveal all he knows about Natalee Holloway’s killing in Aruba. As part of the plea deal, van der Sloot had to provide details about the location of Holloway’s remains and other information.

Despite his confession, it is unlikely that van der Sloot will ever spend a night behind bars for the murder. He even profited from the crime by scamming the victim’s mother.

The plea deal marks the best chance at justice the Holloway family will ever receive. Peruvian police and Interpol agents handed over van der Sloot to FBI agents for a temporary extradition to the United States in Callao, Peru, on June 8.

The Holloway family has been searching for answers for nearly two decades, and now, with van der Sloot’s confession, they have finally received closure.
