Washington, DC – President Joe Biden has postponed his planned trip to Jordan and the meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Sisi of Egypt, and President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, according to a White House official.
The decision to postpone the trip was mutual and in light of the days of mourning announced by President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority. President Biden sent his deepest condolences for “the innocent lives lost in the hospital explosion in Gaza, and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded,” the official said.
The President had been scheduled to travel to Amman, Jordan, to meet with the three leaders. Jordan’s foreign minister said the scheduled meeting with Arab leaders has been called off.
The White House official added that President Biden will still be traveling to Israel on Tuesday night, and that the trip is still a show of support for the U.S. ally amid its war with Hamas.
The White House has not yet announced a new date for the President’s trip to Jordan or the meeting with the three leaders. It is unclear at this time when the President will be able to reschedule the trip and the meeting.
