After decades of investigation, authorities have finally made an arrest in the 1996 murder of beloved rapper Tupac Shakur. On Friday, a Clark County grand jury handed down a murder indictment for Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 60, in connection with the long-unsolved case.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johansson and Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson announced the indictment to reporters, with Wolfson holding a copy of the indictment and stating, “This is the indictment we’ve been waiting almost three decades for.”
Sheriff Kevin McMahill also spoke at the press conference, saying, “Many people who did not believe the murder of Tupac Shakur was important to this police department, I am here to tell you: That was simply not the case.”
Authorities outlined the timeline and evidence they said built a solid case against Davis, some of it built on interviews he gave to various media outlets. Homicide detectives spent close to three decades investigating who was behind Tupac Shakur’s murder during a drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas strip on Sept. 7, 1996.
Davis is currently in custody and awaiting trial. The case is expected to be heard in Clark County District Court. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has not yet released further details on the case.
