73-Year-Old Myrtle Brown Found Dead in Creek Near Chicago Suburb Home, Son Sergio Brown Still Missing

Residents of the Chicago suburb of Maywood were shocked to learn that the body of 73-year-old Myrtle Brown was found in a creek near her home on Saturday evening. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed her death, which is being investigated as a homicide due to injuries consistent with a physical assault.

Myrtle Brown and her 35-year-old son, former NFL safety Sergio Brown, were reported missing on Saturday. Police are now searching for Sergio Brown, who has not been seen since his mother’s disappearance.

Sheila Simmons, Myrtle Brown’s sister, told WGN that she was informed early Saturday that her sister and nephew were missing. A neighbor of Myrtle Brown, who wished to remain anonymous, said that her family had come to the door looking for her after she had been missing for 72 hours.

The Maywood Police Department is asking anyone with information about the case to come forward. They are also asking anyone who may have seen Sergio Brown in the area to contact them. The investigation is ongoing.
