Mariposa County officials have confirmed the deaths of two people in a rock slide earlier this week at Yosemite National Park. The identities of the victims have not been released, nor have the details of the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The U.S. National Park Service reported that the park welcomed 3.3 million visitors in 2021, making it one of the 25 most visited national parks in the country. As a result of the incident, the park announced the closure of Big Oak Flat Road, east of Foresta, on Friday evening.
The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has not released any further information at this time. The incident is currently under investigation.
