A new forensic report suggests that actor Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger of the revolver that killed “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021, contradicting the actor’s denial and raising the possibility of new charges.

The new report, prepared by firearms experts Lucien Haag and Mike Haag for New Mexico prosecutors in the manslaughter case against “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, concluded the trigger “had to be pulled” for the weapon to fire. The report, dated Aug. 2, was assembled for Santa Fe County special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis and found that the gun was not modified.

Involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dropped in April as prosecutors investigated his claim that the Colt revolver he held during a rehearsal fired without him pulling the trigger, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has consistently maintained that he did not pull the trigger of the pistol that fatally shot 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on the New Mexico set in October 2021.

The new report, however, suggests that Baldwin may be held accountable for the shooting. The report concluded that the trigger “had to be pulled” for the weapon to fire, and that the gun was not modified.

It remains to be seen if prosecutors will pursue new charges against Baldwin in light of the new report. If they do, the actor could face a new trial for involuntary manslaughter.
