OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Former NFL running back Alex Collins, who played five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens, was killed in a motorcycle crash in South Florida, authorities said.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Collins was driving a motorcycle that crashed into a sport-utility vehicle Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. The impact caused Collins to go through a window of the SUV and come to rest inside the vehicle.

The Ravens said in a statement: “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins. Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”

The Seattle Seahawks, the other NFL team Collins played for, said simply: “Absolutely heartbroken.”

Collins had a terrific college career at Arkansas before playing five seasons in the NFL. He was drafted by the Seahawks in 2016 and played for the Ravens from 2017-2020.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the SUV was making a left turn when Collins’ motorcycle hit its rear passenger side. Collins died Sunday night.

The NFL community is mourning the loss of Collins, who was known for his kindness and passion for the game. The league has not yet released an official statement.
