His son, Morgan Margolis, and his manager, Robert Kolker, confirmed the news to CBS News and Hollywood Reporter on Friday. According to Morgan Margolis, his father died on Thursday at a New York City hospital after a short illness, with his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Margolis, by his side.
Margolis’ career spanned decades and included appearances in the mob classic “Scarface,” as well as “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Oz” and “American Horror Story: Asylum.” He received an Emmy nomination in 2012 for playing the fearsome cartel chief Hector Salamanca in “Breaking Bad” and its prequel “Better Call Saul.”
Kolker, who had been Margolis’ manager since 2007, said in a statement that the actor was a “lifelong friend.”
“I was lucky to know him,” Kolker said. “He was one of a kind.”
Morgan Margolis added in his statement that his father was an “incredibly talented actor and an even better father.”
“He will be missed,” he said.
