NFL legend Tom Brady has taken on a new role as co-owner and chairman of the advisory board of English soccer team Birmingham City. The surprise announcement was made on August 3, 2023.

Brady, who retired from the NFL in February after a 23-year career that saw him win seven Super Bowls, will join hedge fund manager Tom Wagner as a minority owner of the club. Wagner purchased a more than 45% stake in the club in July.

In a statement shared by the club, Brady said, “Birmingham City is an iconic club with so much history and passion and to be part of the Blues is a real honor for me.” Brady will work directly with the club’s leadership team in his advisory role.

The former New England Patriots quarterback also shared an announcement video on Thursday, in which he was seen wearing the Birmingham City jersey.

Birmingham City Football Club is currently in the English Championship, the second tier of English soccer. The team has not been in the top division since 2011 and has been in the Championship since 2008. Brady’s involvement with the team could help them reach the top division once again.
