House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Suggests Impeachment Inquiry into Allegations of Corruption Against President Joe Biden

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has suggested that allegations of corruption against President Joe Biden may be worthy of an impeachment inquiry. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, McCarthy said that the allegations, which include payments from foreign companies to Biden family members, and the Justice Department’s alleged preferential treatment of Hunter Biden in an investigation, “are rising to the level of impeachment inquiry.”

McCarthy also noted that his family has never received a dollar from China. His comments come as the House is set to debate a pair of contentious government funding bills this week and as former President Donald Trump has called for Biden’s prosecution.

The allegations against Biden have been the subject of several Republican probes, including one led by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who has said that his investigation has uncovered evidence of potential corruption. Johnson has also said that he has found evidence of a “pay-to-play” scheme involving the Biden family.

However, Democrats have dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a statement that the allegations are “nothing more than a partisan attack on the President.”

The Biden administration has also denied any wrongdoing. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement that the allegations are “baseless and false.”

It remains to be seen whether McCarthy’s comments will lead to any further action. For now, the House is focused on debating the government funding bills, and it is unclear if the allegations against Biden will be taken up in the near future.
