Cindy Bayers, a spokeswoman for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said two children went missing after the vehicle they were traveling in got stuck underwater. The three other occupants were able to escape safely.

Environment Canada said on Saturday that some areas may have received more than 300 mm of rain in 24 hours. This is significantly higher than the 90-100 mm of rain that the port city typically receives during an average July.

The storms began on Friday afternoon and have caused multiple vehicles to become submerged. The floods have also caused road closures and power outages.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are continuing to search for the two adults and two children who remain unaccounted for. They are asking for anyone with information to contact them.
