According to Houston Police Assistant Chief Ernest Garcia, officers responded to Margaret Jenkins Park around 1:18 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the location from shot spotter technology.
Garcia said that there were multiple groups at the park when an altercation broke out and “people started firing their firearms.” The shot spotter technology recorded 36 shots had been fired.
A 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. Three of the remaining victims were taken to a local hospital and one was treated at the scene.
Garcia said that the investigation is ongoing and that police are searching for suspects. He also asked anyone with information to come forward.
