A House hearing on Thursday descended into a culture war circus as Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. falsely insisted he was not opposed to vaccinations. The hearing, held by the chamber’s special subcommittee on the purported “weaponization” of the federal government to target conservatives, was meant to give Kennedy a chance to expound on a long series of complaints about social media platforms censoring his anti-vaccine views.

At one point during the hearing, which aired nationally on C-SPAN, Kennedy said, “I am being censored here.” Kennedy is mounting a long-shot bid to unseat President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary.

On Friday, Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, ridiculed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for not endorsing Joe Biden’s re-election bid and running for president himself as he continues to spread conspiracy theories. In a video posted to his Instagram, Schlossberg said his grandfather’s legacy is important and that Biden is becoming “the greatest progressive president we’ve ever had.”

Biden has passed the largest investment in infrastructure since the New Deal and the largest investment in green energy ever. He’s also appointed more federal judges than any president since John F. Kennedy.

The hearing on Thursday was a reminder of the deep divisions within the Democratic Party, as Kennedy continues to spread false information about vaccinations and Biden works to implement progressive policies. It remains to be seen how the divisions will play out in the upcoming election.
