North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s presidential campaign has recently launched a promotional ploy to gain more donors. For a donation of at least $1, donors are promised a $20 Visa or Mastercard gift card mailed to their address. This campaign has cost the campaign hundreds of thousands, but it has helped Burgum cross the 40,000 unique-donor threshold to help him secure a microphone at the first Republican presidential primary debate in Milwaukee next month.

Within 48 hours of starting the campaign, Burgum’s small donors skyrocketed. Donors stood to gain a handsome profit of $19, as the gift card was worth more than the donation.

Mike Pence, the former Indiana Governor and Vice President, can count on ardent support in local Republican circles. People who supported Trump twice and say they’re now ready for a Pence presidency. Bartholomew County Councilman Jorge Morales said, “We know him personally, and that has a bigger value, I think, than reading and finding what other people say about that individual.”

The Burgum campaign’s gift card giveaway has been a success, helping the campaign reach the 40,000 unique-donor threshold.
